I think you need to download the source and build it to get a working Linux version, as for a Mac OS version, I don't know if it already works or not, Janis did some work with it, but I don't think it works yet.

AFAIK, the Vavoom readme (and the wiki) have information for compiling the source in linux, try to look there for more information (hope that this helps you out).

You might be missing some development packages for some libraries, running configure should tell you that. After that it should compile without any problems.
